ISPM15 heat-treated pallets
Where a destination requires treated wood packaging, the evidence is the mark applied by the registered operator that carried out the treatment. These are pallets supplied on that basis.
What you are buying
Solid wood pallets that have been heat treated and marked under ISPM15 by an operator registered with its national plant protection organisation. The mark on the wood is what a plant-health inspector reads, and it is what your customer will photograph if they check.
We supply against your stated requirement. Tell us that the consignment needs treated and marked wood packaging and we will quote pallets on that basis; if you are not sure whether it does, say so and we will help you work through it rather than guess on your behalf.
What the mark does and does not cover
The mark evidences plant-health treatment. It records the country that authorised the operator, the operator's registration number and the treatment applied — usually HT for heat treatment. It carries no date, no load rating and no packaging-law conformity statement.
It is worth being blunt about the boundaries, because assumptions here are expensive: treatment is not kiln drying, a supplier letter is not a substitute for the mark on the wood, and an ISPM15 mark tells your EU customer nothing about packaging law.
Specifying the pallet around it
Treatment and marking answer the plant-health question. Everything else about the pallet — footprint, entry, deck coverage, whether the load is stacked, how many times it will be handled — is a separate specification driven by your goods and the journey.
- Destination country, and whether the pallets carry goods or are the goods
- Footprint, or the load dimensions and weight if you would rather we suggested one
- Quantity, and whether this is one-off or recurring
- Whether the load is stacked, and how it will be handled at the far end
- Anything your customer has specified in writing
Don't forget the dunnage
Loose timber used to chock or brace a load inside a container is wood packaging too. Correct pallets and untreated timber chocks is one of the more frustrating ways to fail an inspection, and it is entirely avoidable if the bracing is specified at the same time as the pallets.
