Used export pallets

Used pallets are legitimate on export freight and often the sensible buy. The decision turns on the marks, the condition and how much your customer wants to know about the packaging.

The four things that decide it

Whether used stock works for your consignment comes down to a short list, and none of the items on it is the pallet's age.

  • Marking: where treated wood packaging is required, is there a legible mark on the pallets you are actually getting?
  • Honesty of the mark: if the pallet has been repaired, does the mark still describe the whole pallet?
  • Condition: sound blocks and bearers, no split load-bearing boards, no protruding fixings, dry and clean enough for your goods
  • Customer specification: plenty of receiving sites contractually require new pallets, whatever the law says

Consistency is the real trade-off

New pallets are identical to each other. Used pallets vary, and variation costs time on the loading bay and creates awkward conversations when a customer photographs the worst one in the load. That is the honest cost of the lower unit price, and for a lot of shipments it is a cost worth paying.

Where you need a consistent grade across a recurring programme, tell us — grading tolerance is part of the specification rather than an afterthought.

Goods that argue against used stock

Food, pharmaceutical and hygiene-sensitive goods, anything in unlined cartons, and anything going into a cleanroom or an audited warehouse. Moisture, staining and residue risk outweigh the unit price in all of those cases, and we would rather say so up front than after a rejection.

Send us photographs if you already have pallets

If your question is about pallets already in your yard rather than pallets you want to buy, photographs of the pallet and both marked faces get you a much more useful answer. We will describe what is visible — construction, condition, apparent repairs, which marks are present and legible. That is product guidance, not certification.

No prices are published on this site

Pallet pricing depends on specification, quantity, treatment and collection or delivery point, so we quote against a real enquiry rather than publishing a figure that would be wrong for most people.

Tell us where it's going and we'll help you choose

Send your destination, pallet size, quantity and deadline, or upload photographs of the pallets and marks you already have. A person reads every enquiry.
