New export pallets
The commercial case for new pallets on export work is rarely about strength. It is about being able to say exactly what you shipped on, to a customer who has started asking.
Why exporters choose new
A new pallet is a known quantity. It was built to a specification, its treatment route is documented from the outset, and every pallet in the batch is the same as the last. That consistency is worth money on export freight in three specific situations: when your customer asks questions about the packaging, when the goods are sensitive to moisture or staining, and when the load has to behave predictably through a long multi-modal journey.
It is also easier to load to. A consistent batch means the load plan you built on Monday still works on Friday.
Where used stock is the better buy
We will say so when it is. For a one-off shipment of robust goods to a destination that does not require marking, and to a customer who is not asking packaging questions, paying for new pallets is paying for reassurance you do not need. The honest comparison is on our used export pallets page and in the guide on using used pallets for export.
What to tell us
The more you can say about the journey rather than the pallet, the better the recommendation. We would rather be told the load weighs 800 kg, is stacked two high and goes by sea to a customer with automated handling than be told a board thickness.
- Footprint, or load dimensions and weight
- Destination and mode — road, sea or air
- Whether treated and marked wood packaging is required for the movement
- Quantity and whether it recurs
- Any written customer specification, including anything about pallet appearance
